Join us as a web volunteer and build new digital skills, gain valuable experience working with websites and online tools, and connect with a dynamic team making an impact in Contra Costa County. You’ll help our webmaster keep the website current by uploading photos and videos, proofreading and formatting blog posts, updating event listings, and organizing resources in our website library.
By keeping our online content accurate and easy to find, you’ll help more people discover local climate solutions and get involved. Each week, you may receive a request to do one or more updates, have a quick check-in with the webmaster to discuss priorities, and then spend some time making changes and reviewing your work before it goes live.
We Will Train
No experience? No problem. We’ll teach you everything you need to know. Bring your enthusiasm, attention to detail, and willingness to learn, and you’ll fit right in. Experience helps, but you don’t need it to get started.
Our webmaster will train you one-on-one so you can get started right away and will always be available to answer questions and guide you as you learn. You’ll have support every step of the way. We welcome volunteers with any level of experience.
You’ll Be Part of an Energetic Team
As a web content volunteer, you’ll be part of the dynamic 350 Contra Costa Action communications team. This team connects with people in Contra Costa County to help them learn about and engage in local climate action. We do this through tabling at events, our monthly newsletter, promoting our climate campaigns at speaking engagements, and, of course, through the website.
Help Build Out Our New City Liaison Program
As a trainee, you’ll help build and update web pages for our new City Liaison program. This program connects volunteers with local city governments to support climate solutions and involve more people. Your work will make information easy to find and help empower residents to take impactful climate action.
Time Required
Meet one-on-one with our webmaster in your first week to get introduced to the team, website, and tools. Plan to spend two to three hours as you get comfortable with the process. Learn our WordPress dashboard, upload photos, format blog posts, and make simple changes together. Follow your checklist for your first tasks and ask questions as needed.
Spend about two hours a week after training until you feel confident. Reach out to the webmaster anytime by text or email, and check in weekly to discuss your progress and troubleshoot any challenges.
Once you grow comfortable, plan to work as little as 2 to 4 hours a month—more if you like. Choose hours that fit your schedule. Request additional hours if you’d like more experience. There’s always plenty to do!
Equipment Needed
To get started, you’ll need a computer and a reliable internet connection. We primarily use the WordPress platform for website updates and the Elementor plugin for page building. We also use Google Drive to share documents and images. Training will be on Zoom, so make sure your computer has a camera and microphone. Being familiar with these platforms is helpful, but we will provide guidance every step of the way.
Ongoing Support
You’ll mostly work independently, but you’ll have regular check-ins with the webmaster and can connect with other Comms Team volunteers to share ideas and get support. This lets you be part of a team while maintaining flexibility and ownership of your work.
Grow Your Skills / Promote Local Climate Action
If you want to learn WordPress and the Elementor plugin and become familiar with managing web content, this is an opportunity to build your skills while helping promote local climate action in Contra Costa County.
