California continues to resist the Trump administration with protests and to press forward with important environmental legislation. In the past few weeks there have been protests in Sacramento and San Francisco to protest the firing of Federal Workers, defunding National Parks, a Stand up for Science March, a Women’s March, and numerous demonstrations at Tesla dealerships. In Contra Costa you can join weekly Tuesday rallies in Lafayette with Mt. Diablo Peace and Justice Center and Mobilize Us. Resistance makes a difference!
Your support is needed! Urge state officials to hold corporate polluters accountable for climate disasters like the LA fires by demanding they pass a climate superfund bill. It’s simple: fossil fuel polluters should pay for the climate damages their products inflicted on California. They shouldn’t get to dump their costs on the public, especially while making record profits. The Polluters Pay Climate Superfund bill requires the state to carry out a study to quantify the costs of climate damages in California and establishes a fund into which fossil fuel polluters must pay to cover their fair share of those costs. The Climate Superfund legislation will protect Californians.

This month we will discuss: California's electric rates are too high! According to the Legislative Analyst’s Office, residential rates rose by 47% between 2019 and 2023. There is general agreement on the causes of the rate increase, but considerable disagreement about solutions.
How can we generate more local, affordable electricity? Join the next Climate Circle on Monday, April 7th to discuss issues and possible solutions.

PBF refinery released a list of toxic chemicals released in the fire. They will release a report about the incident in March. The Air District and the DA continue investigations into previous violations. The county has hired an independent firm to investigate the incident and do a root-cause analysis. Yada, yada, yada, we’ve heard this song before.
