Local Action for a Better World

Standing Up to the Montezuma Pipeline

The proposed Montezuma carbon capture pipeline might sound like a “climate solution,” but the reality is far riskier for our community. Running through Contra Costa and Solano County, this project would carry compressed CO₂ under high pressure — a serious safety concern if leaks occur, and one that adds yet another layer of fossil fuel infrastructure instead of moving us toward clean energy. Local residents would face the hazards, while polluting industries continue to profit in the face of mounting climate disasters throughout the state and beyond.

That’s why 350 Contra Costa Action has teamed up with the Communities Against Carbon Transport & Injection (CACTI) and other partners to stop it. Together, we’re lifting up community voices, making sure the facts are clear, and pressing for climate-smart alternatives.

Now the campaign is moving into a new phase with a public launch event. This is your chance to learn more, connect with neighbors, and make your voice heard. Learn more about CACTI, the Montezuma pipeline, and how you can get involved.

Cleaner Air, Stronger Oversight in Martinez

Good news: community voices are making a difference! After years of pressure for more accountability, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District has reached a settlement with Tesoro Refining & Marketing on air monitoring at the Martinez refinery.

As part of the agreement, Tesoro will install a fenceline system with six monitors for hydrogen sulfide, provide real-time and historical pollution data online, publish quarterly reports, and host a public feedback meeting by the end of the year. The company also faces penalties if it fails to follow through.

This kind of transparency is a win for public health and climate accountability — and it shows how sustained local action leads to concrete change.

Act Now: Heat Pump Incentives End in 2025

Time is running out to take advantage of federal and state incentives for clean home upgrades — they expire on December 31, 2025. That makes now the perfect time to consider switching to heat pump technology for your home.

Heat pumps provide both heating and cooling in one system, using far less energy than traditional furnaces or AC units. They’re efficient, quiet, and work beautifully with rooftop solar.

The same applies to water heating. A heat pump water heater can cut energy use by up to 60 percent, saving money while eliminating indoor air pollution from gas appliances.

Families who’ve already made the switch often say their homes feel healthier, with cleaner air and steady year-round comfort. These upgrades also play a big role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and helping California meet its climate goals.

Explore your options and find local incentives here.
